What Is It?
Upselling is a sales technique whereby Venue present to patrons specials available to them or invites the patron to purchase add-ons to their Order. It usually involves exposing the patron to options that they were perhaps not aware of.
Upselling in the context of OrderAway can be configured using one or more of the following options:
- Advertising – This is generally in the form of an image that is displayed when a patron navigates to the Home page for the first time. For example :
- Add-Ons – This is generally in the form of a list of Items/Products that are displayed when a patron navigates to the Checkout page. For example :
Why Is It Needed?
In the first instance it is not necessarily needed, however, it can be an essential addition/consideration for a Venue in order to offer flexibility and convenience, increase patron loyalty, increase profits, etc.
Who Can Configure Them?
Any person that has the appropriate permissions to access:
- The SwiftPOS Keyboard Designer menu. Permissions are granted via SwiftPOS Clerk Security
- The OrderAway Configuration Tabs.
What Is Required?
Generally Upselling is implemented post the implementation of OrderAway at a Venue, and after some time has lapsed and after ensuring OrderAway is functioning as expected. Before configuring OrderAway for upselling, the following needs to be in place:
- The Products that will comprise the upsell offering, have been identified and created.
How Are They Configured?
As previously mentioned, Upselling can be configured using one or more of the following options:
- Advertising – Refer to How To Configure Upselling for Advertising for more information.
- Add-Ons – Refer to How To Configure Upselling for Add-Ons for more information.
Patron Experience
Below are examples of a potential experience a patron may have at a Venue when both the Advertising and Add-On option have been configured:
Advertising
Once the patron has scanned the Venue’s QR Code or they have entered the Venue provided URL in a browser on their mobile phone, they potentially can experience the following:
- In the first instance they will be presented with the Venue’s Upsell Adverstising.
- They can select Items/Products from the offering, if an offering of Items/Products has been configured (Landing Page Layout) available.
- They can select the Continue to Menu button, to navigate to the Home menu to commence placing an Order.
Add-On
- Once they have made their selection and made their Order, they can then select the Review Order button to proceed to Checkout.
- If an Add-Ons Upsell has been configured, then they will be presented with an offering of Items/Products (Checkout Layout).
- Here, they can select from the list of Items/Products on offer.
- And/or select the Continue to Checkout button to finalise their Order.
What Are The Limitations?
In it’s current form Upselling via OrderAway is limited to:
- Offering patrons Upselling options when they navigate to either one or both of the following:
- Home Page – Usually presented in the form of an Advertising image.
- Checkout – Usually presented as a list of Items/Products that can be added to an Order/Sale.
- Currently a 60 minute interval is required to lapse before the upselling options will be presented again. However, this can be overridden by clearing the browser’s cookies of data, in which case the configured Upsell options will be displayed again.
- The displaying of Images of Items/Products included in the Upsell offering are currently NOT supported.
