Introduction
For the purposes of explaining Post Linking, the example of ordering a coffee is going to be used and referred to frequently in the content of this article going forward.
What Is It?
Products that can be ordered by patrons/staff members can have Post Links that enable the prompting for additional information (in the form of Modifiers/Instructions) to be provided when ordering the Product.
Why Is It Needed?
Products that require additional information to be provided when being ordered, will require Post Linking to be configured to ensure prompting (of patrons/staff members for the additional information) occurs. Refer to Modifiers/Instructions for more information.
Who Can Create Them?
Post Links are created using the SwiftPOS Keyboards and/or Products menus, and as such any Clerk/Staff Member that has the appropriate permissions to access to these menus, will be able to create them. Refer to What is Required? for more information.
What Is Required?
- Ensure at least one Clerk/Staff Member has the appropriate Clerk Security Group permissions required to edit the following:
- Ensure Products that can be ordered by patrons/staff members exist and are active in the Venue’s Locations where they can be ordered. For example, Cappuccino, Latte, Long Black, etc.
- Ensure Modifier/Instruction Products are created and are active in the same Venue’s Locations as the orderable Products that they will be linked to. For example, in the case of the coffee example, the following Products maybe created:
- Small, Regular, Large, Almond Milk, Full Cream Milk, Oat Milk, Skim Milk, Soy Milk, +1 Sugar, +2 Sugar, Extra Hot, Extra Shot, etc. Refer to the Modifiers/Instructions for more information.
- Ensure the Modifier/Instruction Products are grouped together. For example, in the case of the coffee example, the following Product Families maybe created:
- What Size? – With the following Modifier/Instruction Products assigned to it:
- Small, Regular and Large.
- With Milk? – With the following Modifier/Instruction Products assigned to it:
- Almond Milk, Full Cream Milk, Oat Milk, Skim Milk and Soy Milk.
- With Sugar? – With the following Modifier/Instruction Products assigned to it:
- +1 Sugar and +2 Sugar.
- Extras? – With the following Modifier/Instruction Products assigned to it:
- Extra Hot and Extra Shot.
- What Size? – With the following Modifier/Instruction Products assigned to it:
How Are They Linked?
Post Links can be achieved in the following ways:
Product Post Linking
RECOMMENDED. This is very useful when Modifier/Instruction options are required to be presented to patrons/staff members regardless of the Venue’s Location they are being ordered from.
- To link Modifier/Instruction options to a Product select the Post Links button in the Product Full Edit screen. This will then display the Post Event Linking screen, which can then be used to add the Families created above.
- Ensure the Touch option is selected to ensure Modifier/Instruction prompting is enabled for Touch and Self Service.
- Ensure the Web option is selected to ensure Modifier/Instruction prompting is enabled for applications such as OrderAway, TouchMini and/or 3rd Party Ordering systems.
Example of Product Post Linking
POS Key Post Linking
This is more useful when Modifier/Instruction options are required to be presented to patrons/staff members and are specific to a single Location within a Venue. For example, when ordering golf balls, this may only be relevant to one specific Location within a Venue.
- Post Links can be applied to the following types of POS Keys:
- Finalise Keys
- Function Keys
- Product Keys
- Post Links can also be applied using the Post Link (#129) POS Key.
Tip …
Multiple POS Keys can be selected and then Post Links assigned to all of them at once.
Example of POS Key Post Linking
This completes POST LINKING for Back Office, OrderAway, Self Service, Touch and TouchMini.
