Create Post Links

This outlines How To Create Post Links and specifically Product Post Linking for use in swiftpos applications such as OrderAway, Self Service, Touch and TouchMini. Product Post Linking is generally the recommended method of Post Linking. However, POS Key Post Linking is also an option. Refer to POS Key Post Linking for more information.

Products available to patrons for ordering can have Post Links associated with them that enable patrons to be prompted for a additional information (Instructions) when ordering them.

Subjects

How To Create Post Links?

To explain, the following examples will be used:

Coffee Example

When an order for a Coffee is placed, patrons/staff may need to be prompted for additional information such as, What Size? What Type Of Milk? With Sugar? and How Do You Like Your Coffee? These are referred to as Instructional Products in swiftpos. Refer to Instructions for more information. In order to ensure prompting when ordering a Coffee, do as follows:

Instruction Products
  • Create Products for each of the sizes of Coffees that can be sold. For example, Small, Regular, Large etc.
    • Ensure each of the Coffee Size Products created are priced accordingly. For example, for the small size:

Example of a Coffee Milk Size Post Link Product
Repeat the above for the remaining sizes. That is, for the Regular and Large

  • Create Products for each of the types of milk that are available to be added to a Coffee. For example, Almond Milk, Full Cream Milk, No Milk, Oat Milk, Skim Milk, Soy Milk, etc.
    • Ensure each of the Milk Type Products created are priced appropriately. For example, for the Almond Milk:

Example of a Coffee Milk Type Post Link Product
Repeat the above for the remaining coffee types

  • Create Products for each of the sugars that can be added to a Coffee. For example, +1 Sugar, +2 Sugar, No Sugar, etc.

Example of a Coffee Sugar Post Link Product

  • Create Products for each of the extras that are available to be added to a Coffee. For example, Extra Hot, Extra Shot, etc.
    • Ensure each of the Extras Products created are priced accordingly. For example, for the Extra Shot:

  • For each of the Post Link Products created, ensure:
    • Their Size/UOM is configured correctly.
    • They are Priced appropriately relative to their Size/UOM.
    • They are Active in the Locations where they will be sold.
    • If Inventory/Stock is being tracked per Product sold, then ensure they are configured as is required. For example configured as a reciped Item and sourced from the appropriate Product.

Family Groupings
  • Create a Family of Products for each grouping of the Post Link Products and assign each of the Products created above to their respective Family. For example, in the case of the Coffee example, the following Families maybe created to appropriately group their Post Link Products:
    • What Size? - Grouping for the Small, Regular and Large Post Link Products.
    • What Type Of Milk? - Grouping for the Almond Milk, Full Cream Milk, No Milk, Oat Milk, Skim Milk and Soy Milk Post Link Products.
    • With Sugar? - Grouping for the +1 Sugar, +2 Sugar and No Sugar Post Link Products.
    • How Do You Like Your Coffee? - Grouping for the Extra Hot and Extra Shot Post Link Products.

  • Create base Products for each of the types of Coffee that can be sold. For example, Americano, Cappuccino, Caramel Latte, Espresso, Macchiato, etc.
    • For Products that require a size to be selected, ensure they are Priced at $0.00, as pricing will be determined by the size selected.
    • For Products that DO NOT require a size to be selected, ensure they are Priced appropriately. For example, an Espresso does not require the specification of a size and therefore will require a pricing to be set against the base Product.

  • Create Products continued ...
    • They are Active in the Locations where they will be sold.
    • Ensure they have Post Links configured to link to their appropriate Family groupings created above using the Post Event Linking screen.
      • Ensure the Touch option is selected. This will ensure Instruction prompting is enabled for Touch and Self Service.
      • Ensure the Web option is selected. This will ensure Instruction prompting is enabled for OrderAway and TouchMini.

  • Optionally create a Family for the base Coffees above. For example, Coffee Types. This will enable the Products to be easily selected and added to the appropriate Keyboard Layouts.

Tap Beer Example

When an order for a Tap Beer is placed, patrons/staff may need to be prompted for additional information such as, What size do they want. Namely, a Pot, Schooner, Pint, Jug. These are referred to as Instructional Products in swiftpos. Refer to Instructions for more information. In order to ensure prompting when ordering a Tap Beer, do as follows:

Instruction Products
  • Create Products for each of the sizes of Tap Beers that can be sold. For example, Pot, Schooner, Pint, Jug.
    • Ensure each of the Tap Beer Size Products created are priced accordingly. For example, for the Schooner:

Notes...

If Inventory/Stock is being tracked per brand of Beer sold, then Products will need to be created for each Tap Beer size and for each Tap Beer brand sold. That is, if 4 brands of Tap Beers are being sold, and these are being sold in 4 different sizes, then 16 Products will need to be created in total.

  • For each of the Products created, ensure:
    • Their Size/UOM is configured correctly.
    • They are Priced appropriately relative to their Size/UOM.
    • They are Active in the Locations where they will be sold.
    • If Inventory/Stock is being tracked per brand of Beer sold, then ensure they are configured as a reciped Item and sourced from the appropriate keg of branded Beer.

Repeat the above for the remaining sizes. That is, for the Pot, Pint and Jug

Notes...

The Short (16 Chars) field is set to represent the size of the Beer. This is to ensure patrons can easily select the Beer size they are after when ordering.

Family Groupings

Example of a Family of Beer sizes for one type of Tap Beer

  • Create base Products for each of the types of Tap Beers available. For example, Carlton Mid Strength, Hahn Light, Heineken, James Boags Premium Light, Stone & Wood Pacific Pale Ale, VB and XXX Gold Lager.
    • Ensure they are Priced at $0.00, as pricing will be determined by the size selected.

Example of a base Product created in swiftpos for the ordering of a Tap Beer

  • They are Active in the Locations where they will be sold.
  • They have a Price set to zero ($0.00) as the price will be determined by the size of the Tap Beer ordered (via the Post Linking).

Notes...

The Short Description option is selected so that it is displayed, rather than the Product Description. Also, the Sort Order selected should represent the order of the Beer sizes from smallest to largest. In the above example this is the PLU Number.

This completes the steps to create Post Links for ordering different Tap Beers brands and in different sizes.
