Introduction ▲ ▼
For the purposes of explaining Post Linking, the example of ordering a coffee is going to be used and referred to frequently in the content of this article going forward.
What Is It? ▲ ▼
Products that can be ordered by patrons/staff members can have Post Links that enable the prompting for additional information (in the form of Instructions) to be provided when ordering the Product.
Why Is It Needed? ▲ ▼
Products that require additional information to be provided when being ordered, will require Post Linking to be configured to ensure prompting (of patrons/staff members for the additional information) occurs. Refer to Instructions for more information.
Who Can Create Them? ▲ ▼
Post Links are created using the swiftpos Keyboards and/or Products menus, and as such any Clerk/Staff Member that has the appropriate permissions to access to these menus, will be able to create them. Refer to What is Required for more information.
What Is Required? ▲ ▼
- Ensure at least one Clerk/Staff Member has the appropriate Clerk Security Group permissions required to edit the following:
- Ensure Products that can be ordered by patrons/staff members exist and are active in the Venue's Locations where they can be ordered. For example, Cappuccino, Latte, Long Black, etc.
- Ensure Instructional Products are created and are active in the same Venue's Locations as the orderable Products that they will be linked to. For example, in the case of the coffee example, the following Products maybe created:
- Small, Regular, Large, Almond Milk, Full Cream Milk, Oat Milk, Skim Milk, Soy Milk, +1 Sugar, +2 Sugar, Extra Hot, Extra Shot, etc. Refer to Instructions for more information.
- Ensure the Instructional Products are grouped together. For example, in the case of the coffee example, the following Product Families maybe created:
- What Size? - With the following Instructional Products assigned to it:
- Small, Regular and Large.
- With Type Of Milk? - With the following Instructional Products assigned to it:
- Almond Milk, Full Cream Milk, No Milk, Oat Milk, Skim Milk and Soy Milk.
- With Sugar? - With the following Instructional Products assigned to it:
- +1 Sugar, +2 Sugar and No Sugar.
- How Do You Like Your Coffee? - With the following Instructional Products assigned to it:
- Extra Hot and Extra Shot.
- What Size? - With the following Instructional Products assigned to it:
- Also, consider making use of the Post Link (#129) POS Key.
How Are They Linked? ▲ ▼
Post Links can be achieved in the following ways:
- POS Key Post Linking
- Product Post Linking - RECOMMENDED
POS Key Post Linking ▲ ▼
This is only useful when instructional options are required to be captured when placing an order for a Product that is specific to a single Location within a Venue. For example, when ordering golf balls, this may only be relevant to one specific Location (Golf Shop) within a Venue.
- Post Links can be applied to the following types of POS Keys:
- Finalise Keys
- Function Keys
- Product Keys
- Post Links can also be applied using the Post Link (#129) POS Key.
TIPS
Multiple POS Keys can be selected and then Post Links assigned to all of them at once.
Example of the creation of POS Key Post Linking
Product Post Linking ▲ ▼
This is very useful when preparation instructions are required when placing an order for a particular Product.
RECOMMENDED
Unlike POS Key Post Linking, it is tied to the Product rather than to a particular Product POS Key on a particular Keyboard Layout. This ensures that each time the Product is ordered, no matter the Location within the Venue or the swiftpos Product (that is, OrderAway, Self Service, Touch and/or TouchMini) being used to place the order, instructional prompts will be generated to ensure the patron's preparation preferences are captured.
Refer to How To Create Post Links for more information.
