This provides an overview of the Table (#30) POS Key, which supports the following functions:
- BISTRO TABLES - A Bistro Table is similar to a Table with the exception that, items added to a Bistro Table (usually by patron) are required to be paid for immediately or Finalised to a TAB. After each order is completed a prompt will be displayed, requesting confirmation as to whether this is the last order for the Bistro Table. If confirmed with a Yes response, the order will be sent to the Kitchen. If charging to Bistro Tables from multiple Touch terminals at the same time, then ensure Table Last Mode is used.
- TABS - Like a Table, TABs also allow items to be added to a TAB without having to pay for the items straight away. TABs are visible in all Locations that have Table Tracking enabled, as opposed to Tables which are only visible in a specific Location. Another difference between a Table and a Tab is that any number of Tables can be linked to a TAB, allowing for the TAB to be finalised and rather than the individual Tables. Refer to Differences Between Tables And TABs for more information.
- TABLES - A Table allows items to be added without having to pay for the items immediately. Instead, Table bill is finalised at the end of the meal. Tables support the setting of covers, assigning items to individual seats and linking Tables to Accounts, as well as setting credit limits if required.

What Is It Used For? ▲ ▼
This POS Key is used to assign a vacant Bistro Table/Table/TAB or open an existing Bistro Table/Table/TAB.
Refer to How To Open A Table for more information.
To Be Considered ▲ ▼
- If required, access to this POS Key can be restricted by the Clerk Security feature.
- Multiple Table# POS Keys can be added to a Keyboard and configured (refer to Settings for more information) to function as one of the following:
- Table - By default the Table POS Key when added to a keyboard will function as a Table.
- Bistro Table - Add a Table (#30) POS Key with a caption Bistro Table and ensure it has the Bistro Table setting selected so that is functions as a Bistro Table.
- TAB - Add a Table (#30) POS Key with a caption TAB. Optionally, select the Display TAB's First setting to ensure that TABs are initially displayed when the Table (#30) POS Key is selected.
- If Tables or TABs need to be open for more than one day, then it is recommended to use Accounts rather than TABs or Tables. This way, all the sales are accounted for, and the stock on hand is updated in the Back Office. At any time an Account Summary can be printed from Touch. It looks very much like a Table or TAB bill with the amount owing visible.
- Refer to Table Tracking Settings for more information.
Differences Between Tables And TABs ▲ ▼
There are a number of differences between Tables and TABs which are important to know when deciding which one or both are needed in a specific Business/Venue.
The table shown below lists a number of Table Tracking features and whether these can be used with either Tables/TABs or both. The Table (#30) POS Key can be used for Bar TABs as well. TABs are best used when the Customer's ID has been verified and a deposit or credit card has been taken off the Customer, and is only returned when they their TAB has been paid. This allows Customers to move between Bars and Restaurants without fear of bills not being paid.

What Is Required? ▲ ▼
- Ensure this POS Key is added to the appropriate Keyboard Layout using the Designer. Refer to How To Add A POS Key To A Keyboard Layout for more information.
- Ensure it is configured as required. Refer to the Settings below.
Settings ▲ ▼

This screen is accessed by selecting the More Settings button in Keyboard Designer.
- Keep table open in table last mode - Select to ensure the Table/TAB is saved and remains in the sales grid when making use of Table Last Mode. This enables further items to be added to the Table/Tab. To clear it from the sales grid select the Table/TAB POS Key. If not selected, the Table/TAB will be saved and cleared from the sales grid when making use of Table Last Mode.
- Bistro Table - Select to ensure that the Table POS Key functions as a Bistro Table. It is recommended that the caption setting against the Table POS Key be set to 'Bistro Table', to reflect this. A Bistro Table is similar to a standard Table except that with each addition of items to the Table (usually by seat) requires that the items be paid for immediately or finalised to a TAB. After each order is completed a question is asked if this is the last order for the Table. Once the this has been answered with a Yes it will be automatically sent to the Kitchen Printer/KVS. Other Bistro Table related options are:
- Flag Table for Cleaning - Select to flag the Bistro Table for cleaning after the last order has been placed. This setting is only applicable in conjunction with Floor Plans.
- Auto Close Table - Select to ensure the Bistro Table is closed after the last order has been placed. NOTE- when used with the Clerk setting to "Log off when sale finalises", this will log off after each order is tendered.
- Keep Bistro Table Open - Select to keep the Bistro Table open opened again with the next order number for the Table. When you are prompted ?is this the last sale for this Table? and you select ?no?, the next sale for that Bistro Table starts. So when you are manually printing the receipt, it is printing what is in the sales screen (which is $0.00). Because you are printing manual receipts and keeping Bistro Tables open, these two settings will not work in conjunction with each other. Note : If you wish to print a receipt for the customer, you MUST turn the receipt on (top right hand corner) before the sale has finalised. Otherwise, if you wish to keep manually printing receipts, you will have to deselect the Keep Bistro Table Open setting.
- Prompt for Order Name - Select this to ensure the Clerk is prompted for an order name when each order is placed on the Bistro Table.
- Close Table Key - Select to set a Table POS Key to be used close a Table rather than having to do this via the Floor Plan Display.
- Return to Home Layout on Close/Save Table - Select to return to the home layout whenever a Bistro/Standard Table is saved or finalised.
- Display TAB's First - Select to show TAB's initially when the Open Tables for All Clerks screen is displayed. If not selected then the Bistro/Standard Tables will be initially shown. Select to set a Table# POS Key to be used as a TAB POS Key rather than a Table# POS Key. When the TAB POS Key is selected at the swiftpos Touch terminal it will display all the TAB's that are currently open, avoiding the need to switch between Tables and TAB's using the POS Keys at the bottom left of the screen.
- Display Table List for Table Last Mode - Select to display the Open Tables/TABs for All Clerks screen to select a currently open Table/TAB when making use of Table Last mode. This makes table selection easier, as the table number does not have to be entered/remembered by Clerks/Staff Members.
- Next Available Number - Select to return the next available Table/Bistro Table/ Bar Tab number. When all available numbers have been allocated a message will be displayed notifying the Clerk/Staff Member that there are no Tables/Tabs left.
Notes...
Selecting the Next Available Number option while in a Table Last Mode operation will NOT return the next available Table number. Also, this option when used, will effectively remove the ability of the Table# / Bistro Table / TAB POS Key to be used to search for a specific Table/Tab number.
