What Is It? ▲ ▼
NetPOS is a service application that forms a part of the swiftpos Back Office and interfaces between with swiftpos Touch and 3rd Party Applications. Amongst other things, it facilitates the:
- Retrieval/Validation/updating of swiftpos Member/Account information from swiftpos Touch terminals. For example, a Customer/Member swipes their card and NetPOS makes a request to swiftpos Back Office to retrieve the Customer/Member's name and current Loyalty Points. The information is returned to the swiftpos Touch terminal and points can be redeemed on purchases up to the maximum number of points currently appointed to the Customer/Member. When the purchase (or redemption) occurs, the transaction is processed so that the Customer/Member's points are updated in swiftpos Back Office immediately.
Notes ...
All sites running NetPOS will need to be registered for the swiftpos Membership/Accounts module.
- Real-time communication between swiftpos Touch and 3rd Party APIs. For example, Blackhawk, Vii, Zen Global, etc. It allows for the configuration of relevant APIs being used at a Venue.
Refer to NetPOS Overview in Reseller Help for more information.
The content is targeted at Resellers and swiftpos Venue Administrators who have a sound knowledge of and experience with swiftpos. For further information or assistance, please contact your swiftpos Reseller or swiftpos Support.

- Sites running NetPOS require a swiftpos Back Office registration that includes the Membership/Accounts module.
- NetPOS is included as part of the swiftpos Back Office software offering. Once the upgrade to the most current version of swiftpos Back Office has been completed and NetPOS is installed, then NetPOS.NET will appear in the External Applications menu of the swiftpos Back Office toolbar. What To Consider ▲ ▼
Installation ▲ ▼
The install of NetPOS for Gaming or Front Office interfaces can take from 4-20 hours depending on the complexity of the site.
Points Accrual ▲ ▼
Where Points are accrued is dependent the first interface that handles Member Lookup. For example, if it is:
- Back Office - Then the Member's Points and Cash Account balances are returned from swiftpos Back Office. Also, Points are accrued to Member's in swiftpos Back Office.
- A Gaming System - Then the Member's Points and Cash Account balances are returned from the 3rd Party Gaming application. Also, Points are accrued to the Member's Points in the 3rd Party Gaming application.
- A Gaming System linked to Back Office - Then the Member's Points are returned from the 3rd Party Gaming application, and the Cash Account balances are returned from both swiftpos Back Office and the 3rd Party Gaming application. Also, Points are accrued to the Member's Points in the 3rd Party Gaming application.
The process of accruing Points in swiftpos Back Office Points is calculated based on the following:
- The Points Multiplier of the Member's current Classification.
- The Pts/$ (Points per Dollar) value configured against the sale Item's Category.
- The Media's Award Points and the portion of the sale amount assigned to each individual Media.
Notes...
The BJL NetPOS sales file is required to be created and processed for the Points to be accrued against Members. Refer HERE for more information. Also, the accruing of Points for some Gaming Systems can also be impacted by the Points Accrual process explained above.
Reconciliation ▲ ▼
At the end of each week, you can check your Points Awarded for the period against the points report in your Gaming System. Please remember that if the Gaming System is offline then there may be points transactions that have to be posted manually to the Gaming System. Redemptions are live but points awarded are dependent on the Gaming System being available when the transactions are processed. The NetPOS log files will provide a detailed history of the events that have occurred during the period.
swiftpos v4+ Considerations ▲ ▼
Notes ...
In swiftpos v4+, if Members, Accounts or Loyalty are being used, then NetPOS must be running and the BJL sales file being read.
Also, installing NetPOS with any Gaming or Front Office interface will require the software maintenance to be current as of the installation date.

- Stop and uninstall the NetPOS service.
- Rename and/or backup and delete the existing folder.
- Upgrade your swiftpos Back Office and swiftpos Touch terminals to the latest version.
- Make sure all swiftpos Touch terminals are upgraded and have .NET Framework installed on both the swiftpos Back Office and swiftpos Touch terminals.
- Upgrade and send software updates to all swiftpos Touch terminals
- Re-install and start the Service. Registration and configuration should be retained. Refer to How To Access The NetPOS Menu for more information.
- All should be good to go.
- Going forward, all NetPOS updates are handled by the swiftpos Back Office updates process.
Testing ▲ ▼
Confirmation of testing must be completed after any software update to ensure that functionality is working as expected. Refer HERE for more information.
The integration between swiftpos Touch and Gaming Systems rely on processes that occur in the background after the sales process has been completed in Touch. The integration has been developed to support multiple Gaming software applications that are available, and the features that are implemented may vary from site to site. To check that the features are working correctly, it is important to test the operation each time a change is made to the Gaming Software and/or Touch software.
Print, complete and sign the NetPOS Site Sign-off form. Then, email it to Support and keep a copy for the records.
Updating ▲ ▼
To update to NetPOS in swiftpos v4+, the legacy NetPOS.NET interface will need to be added, in order to connect to any of the old NetPOS interfaces.
