How To Configure A Command Line? ▲ ▼
When Is It Used? ▲ ▼
Most commonly used when a Venue requires multiple KVS screens to be displayed on one screen.
How To? ▲ ▼
Command lines for KVS can include one or more of the arguments outlined HERE. An example of this, are the following command lines, that support the displaying of 4 KVSs to be displayed on a single monitor. The 4 screens will be separated with a border of 10 pixels in thickness. Refer HERE for more information.
- Entrees KVS - /ID:1 /SCREEN:1 /L:1,1:955,535
- Mains KVS - /ID:2 /SCREEN:1 /L:965,1:955,535
- Desserts KVS - /ID:3 /SCREEN:1 /L:1,545:955,535
- Pass KVS - /ID:4 /SCREEN:1 /L:965,545:955,535
Once the arguments to be used in a command line have been established, these can then be appended to the start command of a Windows application. For example, the above command lines can now be appended to the value held in the Target field of a Shortcut tab in the properties of each of the KVS shortcuts displayed on the desktop. For example, the value of the Target field of the shortcut for the KVSs, with the command line included, would be for:
- Entrees - C:\SwiftPOSKVS\SwiftPOS.Kitchen.Video.exe /ID:1 /SCREEN:1 /L:1,1:955,535
- Mains - C:\SwiftPOSKVS\SwiftPOS.Kitchen.Video.exe /ID:2 /SCREEN:1 /L:965,1:955,535
- Desserts - C:\SwiftPOSKVS\SwiftPOS.Kitchen.Video.exe /ID:3 /SCREEN:1 /L:1,545:955,535
- Pass - C:\SwiftPOSKVS\SwiftPOS.Kitchen.Video.exe /ID:4 /SCREEN:1 /L:965,545:955,535
Notes ...
If any one of the command lines have been configured incorrectly, the KVS in question will default to filling the entire screen. For example, if the following command line is used for the Entrees KVS:
C:\SwiftPOSKVS\SwiftPOS.Kitchen.Video.exe /ID:1 /SCREEN:1 /L:0,0:955,535
Then when started the Entrees KVS will appear maximised to fill the whole screen of the monitor.
How To Adjust/Set Available Serving Quantities? ▲ ▼
- In KVS:
- Select an Item/Product by selecting the name. This will display the available adjustment quantities that can be selected in order to adjust the Available Servings quantity for the selected Item/Product.
- Select one or more of the adjustment quantities to ensure the Available Servings is correctly adjusted.
Notes ...
Available Servings quantities in KVS, will be monitored in Touch, regardless of whether the Item/Product is configured for Available Servings in Touch.
Also, if the Available Servings quantity for a selected Item/Product is adjusted to:
- Below zero, then there is no limit applied to the number of Available Servings available.
- Zero, then the Item/Product becomes unavailable to order/sell.
- In KVS continued ...
- Once adjusted to the correct quantity, select either the name of the:
- Another Item/Product to adjust it's Available Serving quantity.
OR - Select the name of the last Item/Product adjusted to return to the KVS screen.
- Another Item/Product to adjust it's Available Serving quantity.
- Once adjusted to the correct quantity, select either the name of the:
- In Touch:
- The Available Servings for the same Items/Products will display the adjusted quantity as was set in KVS. This will only occur if the Items/Products POS Keys have the Available Servings option selected against it.
- If the Available Servings are adjusted from within Touch, then KVS will immediately display the updated quantities.
How To Configure A Wait Time? ▲ ▼
How To? ▲ ▼
- In Touch
- Ensure the Wait Time option is set to True against the KVS Peripheral that will be used to set wait times.
Notes ...
It is recommended that only one KVS is identified and has the Wait Time option set to True.
- In KVS
- Select the Wait Time option to display the Wait Times prompt.
- Select one of the Wait Time options displayed in the prompt.
- Select OK to save the selection and close the prompt.
- Once set the Wait Time will be displayed in Touch HERE.
Notes ...
If NO Wait Time is selected or the No Delay option is selected, then the time displayed at Touch will be K [0 mins].
What Is It? ▲ ▼
A Wait time is normally determined and set by the head Chef and is used to display at Touch the average wait time before an Order is available.
How To Configure For Available Servings? ▲ ▼
How To? ▲ ▼
- In Touch, the Enable option for Available Servings in Table Tracking will need to be selected and the Location selected from the drop-down list from, which the Available Servings setting will be sourced.
- Start KVS and navigate to the Configuration Tabs. Refer HERE for more information.
- Select the Extra tab.
- in the Available Servings section.
- Ensure the Enable option is selected.
- Ensure a Location is selected from the Location drop-down list.
- Select the Add option to open the Available Servings Products screen to locate and select an Item/Product to add to the grid. Once added, available servings for the Item/Product can then be managed and displayed from within KVS. Repeat, to add as many Items/Products as is required.
- in the Available Servings section.
Notes ...
The more Items/Products added the more they will be squeezed to fit at the top of the KVS screen. This will mean that in some cases the names of the Items/Products will be truncated. For example:
-
-
- Select OK to Save the changes and exit.
-
What Is It? ▲ ▼
Available Servings refers to a live count of how many portions of a particular Item/Product are currently available for sale. It is:
- Displayed on the KVS screen for staff visibility.
- Adjustable manually using increment/decrement controls.
- Synced with the Touch so front-of-house staff are able to see the current number of servings available.
Notes ...
Available Servings in KVS works both independently and collaboratively with Touch. That is:
- Independently - if an Item/Product has an Available Serving quantity configured for it in KVS only (that is, it is NOT configured for Available Servings in Touch), then KVS will continue to manage and display the correct quantity. However, from Touch, Available Servings will not be able to be managed and displayed. Also, Touch will NOT prevent the order/sale of the Item/Product once the KVS Available Serving quantity hits zero. This setup may prove useful when a kitchen wants to do some basic stock monitoring.
- Collaboratively - If an Item/Product has an Available Serving quantity configured for it in both KVS and in Touch, then quantities will be able to be managed and displayed from both, and both will be kept in sync with each other.
What Is Not Supported? ▲ ▼
- The ability to identify and select multiple Locations for the sourcing of Available Servings is currently not available. However, this has been identified as a potential shortcoming and is likely to be addressed in the coming future.

How To Configure Multiple KVSs On One Screen? ▲ ▼
There may be a situation that a Venue requires multiple KVS screens to be displayed on one screen. In order to achieve this, the following example is provided as a guide.
Notes ...
Even though there is no limitation to the number of KVSs that can be displayed on one screen, at some point too many will become an issue and not necessarily be workable for the Venue. It all depends on the size of the screen being used to display them, and how many it can reasonably cater to.
Example
The Venue requires 4 KVS screens to be displayed on a single monitor. The 4 screens will be separated with a border of 10 pixels in thickness. This is purely to visually delineate the screens from each other. The 4 screens will be used to display the Orders for:
- Entrees
- Mains
- Desserts
- The Pass
Configuration
- Determine the IDs that are to be attributed to each of the KVS screens. In this example, the following will IDs will be applied:
- 1 for the Entrees KVS screen
- 2 for the Mains KVS screen
- 3 for the Desserts KVS screen
- 4 for the Pass KVS screen
- Determine the screen resolution/size of the monitor on which the 4 KVSs are going to be displayed on. In this example, the screen resolution/size of the monitor is 1920 w x 1080 h pixels.
- Determine the screen resolution/size of each of the 4 swiftpos KVS screens.
- Determine the width of each of the 4 screens. To do this:
- Divide the width of the monitor by 2.
For example, 1920 / 2 = 960 - Subtract 5 (for half the thickness of the border) from the above result.
For example, 960 - 5 = 955. This is the width of each individual screen.
- Divide the width of the monitor by 2.
- Determine the height of each of the 4 screens. To do this:
- Divide the height of the monitor by 2.
For example, 1080 / 2 = 540 - Subtract 5 (for half the thickness of the border) from the above result.
For example, 540- 5 = 535. This is the height of each individual screen.
- Divide the height of the monitor by 2.
- In conclusion, the screen resolution/size of each of the screens will be 955 w x 535 h pixels.
- Determine the width of each of the 4 screens. To do this:
- Determine the screen position of each of the 4 swiftpos KVS screens.
- The 1st screen (for Entrees) will display in the top left corner. Hence, it will have a screen position of 1,1.
- The 2nd screen (for Mains) will display in the top right corner. Hence, it's screen position is determined as follows:
- Width of 1st screen + thickness of border. 955 + 10 = 965. Hence, it will have a screen position of 965,1.
- The 3rd screen (for Desserts) will display in the bottom left corner. Hence, it's screen position is determined as follows:
- Height of 1st screen + thickness of border. 535 + 10 = 545. Hence, it will have a screen position of 1,545.
- The 4th screen (for the Pass) will display in the bottom right corner. Hence, it's screen position is determined as follows:
- Width of 3rd screen + thickness of border. 955 + 10 = 965. Hence, it will have a (x) value of 965.
-
-
- Height of 2nd screen + thickness of border. 535 + 10 = 545. Hence, it will have a (y) value of 545.
- Hence, it will have a screen position of 965,545.
-
- Create and configure shortcuts for each of the 4 KVSs.
- Create a shortcut on the Windows Desktop for each of the 4 KVSs.
- This can be done by right clicking on the SwiftPOS.Kitchen.Video.exe file in the C:\SwiftPOSKVS folder and selecting the Send To > Desktop (create shortcut) option.
- Configure the shortcuts as follows:
- Rename each to represent each of the 4 KVSs required. For example, give them the names Entrees, Mains, Desserts and Pass respectively.
- Configure a command line for each. This will ensure that each is positioned and sized correctly. The command line for each is determined as follows:
- /ID:n /SCREEN:n1 /L:x,y:w,h where:
- /ID - Represents the ID (n) designated to each of the KVSs as determined above.
- /SCREEN - Represents the number (n1) of the monitor the KVSs are going to be displayed on.
- /L - Represents the position (x,y) and resolution/size (w,h) of each of the KVSs as determined above.
- In the example, the command lines for the 4 KVSs will appear as follows for the:
- Entrees KVS - /ID:1 /SCREEN:1 /L:1,1:955,535
- Mains KVS - /ID:2 /SCREEN:1 /L:965,1:955,535
- Desserts KVS - /ID:3 /SCREEN:1 /L:1,545:955,535
- Pass KVS - /ID:4 /SCREEN:1 /L:965,545:955,535
- Refer HERE for information on How To Configure A Command Line.
- /ID:n /SCREEN:n1 /L:x,y:w,h where:
- Rename each to represent each of the 4 KVSs required. For example, give them the names Entrees, Mains, Desserts and Pass respectively.
- Create a shortcut on the Windows Desktop for each of the 4 KVSs.
- Configure each of the 4 KVS as is required to meet the Venue's requirements. This can be done by selecting the Settings option at the bottom of each of the KVS screens.
- Once all 4 KVSs are started, they should appear as follows on the designated monitor:
