About      ▲▼

What Is It?      ▲ ▼

Update Expressions allow Swiftpos to automatically maintain one Price Level from:

  • Another sell Price Level, OR
  • Item's/Product's cost price.

What To Consider?      ▲ ▼

  • Saving or changing an Update Expression DOES NOT automatically recalculate existing item/product prices.

When Is It Used?      ▲ ▼

Used most often to update:

  • Member pricing
  • Tiered member pricing
  • Staff pricing
  • Cost-based pricing
  • Wholesale/trade pricing

How To GET STARTED?      ▲ ▼

When INITIALLY setting up Price Levels, it is recommended to do as follows:

  • Temporarily set the Update Expression to None for all Price Levels. Refer HERE for more information.
  • Use the Price Change Wizard to ensure the initial pricing of the appropriate Price Level (for example, for the Normal Price Level) is set.
  • Review and commit those price changes.
  • In the Price Levels tab of the Price Level & Media Setup screen:
    • Configure Base Price, Exclude Family and Update Expression options.
    • Save the changes.
  • Use the Price Change Wizard to bulk-change the pricing of all Price Levels (except the Price Level used as the Base Price. For example, the Normal Price Level).
  • Going forward any changes to the Price Level used as the Base Price will automatically result in the other Price Levels being updated automatically as a result of the Update Expressions configured.
  • For example:
    • From Sell Price

      • Base Price determines the source Price Level.
      • Changing the source Price subsequently recalculates dependent Price Levels.

Normal Price → Members less 10%.

For multiple member tiers, each Price Level should normally reference the Normal Price directly rather than chaining calculations. That is:

      • Normal Price→ Diamond
      • Normal Price→ Gold
      • Normal Price→ Silver
    • From Cost Price

      • Used when selling prices should follow the item's/product's cost.
      • Base Price must reference the same Price Level.
      • Cost-based calculations can include Tax, formula and rounding.
      • Cost calculations should be tested where a Venue has differing Location costs.
  • To be continued ...
  • Refer HERE for more information regarding the Formula optiions

  • Now configure the Update Expression of each of the other Price Levels (excluding the Normal Price Level) as required, ensuring the Normal Price Level is used as the source price.

  • This will ensure that any future price changes to the cost/sell price of the Normal Price Level, will automatically adjust the prices of the other Price Levels.

Why Is The Update Expression For All Price Levels Temporarily Set To None?

When all Price Levels, except the Normal Price Level, use the Normal Price Level as the Source (Base) price to calculate their pricing, then a price change will trigger all Price Levels to be calculated and updated as well. When this applies to a large number of items/products, it will impact heavily on the time taken to commit the price change. Setting the Update Expression to None temporarily for all Price Levels, ensures the committing of the price change runs more quickly, and does not have an adverse impact.
